WATCH TrackerAIRSIDE™ LITE BRING AWARD WINNING INNOVATION TO DJARINDJIN AIRPORT
Watch how Djarindjin Airport Pty Ltd (DAPL) has introduced an innovative world-first Helicopter Turnaround Specific TrackerAIRSIDE Lite mobile app designed to raise intelligence, efficiency, safety and compliance for helicopter operations.
With 20 best practice functions and procedures, TrackerAIRSIDE Lite mobile app uses real time intelligence to support the numerous duties required of highly-skilled Indigenous workers performing high- risk, intensive, technical and one-of-a-kind helicopter hot refuelling aircraft turnarounds for the oil and gas industry.
Benchmark best practice time-tracking is involved to support intricate hot refuelling process and collaborative decision making across all stakeholders.
Djarindjin Airport Pty Ltd (DAPL) is the first 100% indigenous owned and operated Certified Airport in Australia and is the only airport in the Southern Hemisphere that does Helicopter Hot Refuelling to service offshore oil and gas mining industry.
The introduction of AeroAscent’s TrackerAIRSIDE Lite at Djarindjin Airport has been nothing short of transformative, revolutionizing the way airfield safety and compliance activities are managed and reported at a very specialised, one-of-a-kind helicopter turnaround aerodrome. The TrackerAIRSIDE Lite project has redefined efficiency, shifting time from office-bound tasks such as paperwork, filing, and administration, to where it matters most: on the airfield.
TrackerAIRSIDE Lite has fostered an environment of ownership and empowerment within the team, simplifying onboarding processes, even with a fluid roster. The system’s end-to-end process standardization – from the start of shift to end of shift inspections and routine airside processing – and rich end user experience has not only streamlined workflows but also inspired individuals to embrace greater responsibility. The result is a cohesive, disciplined approach to safety and compliance, ensuring a more engaged and accountable team.
From a business perspective, TrackerAIRSIDE Lite stands out as one of DAPL’s most successful lean projects to date. By embracing lean principles, the project has significantly reduced or eliminated waste across various fronts: paper, time, duplication, and physical space for file storage. These efficiency gains reflect the AeroAscent's core objective of reducing non-value-adding tasks and optimizing resources to focus on what truly drives safety and compliance excellence. This increased operational intelligence from the implementation of TrackerAIRSIDE Lite drives deeper efficiency optimisation, lean process and higher value realisation through quality standardised reporting, meaning everyone reports the same way, allowing accurate and more in-depth measurement of all aspects of airfield inspections and reporting.
In the short time TrackerAIRSIDE Lite has been deployed at DAPL (since March 2024) benefits to key stakeholders including DAPL, DAPL Staff, Djarindjin Aboriginal Community, Helicopter Operators, Oil & Gas Industry been evident including:
- Increased safety and compliance through unique and real-time data collection. Safety & Compliance activities increased by ~90% and Average Helicopter Turnaround Time of 15.9min which is considered internationally as best in class with industry benchmark’s set at 15-20min for Hot Refuelling and 20-40min for non-Hot Refuelling - these key outcomes have significant impact on reduced carbon footprint, sound safety outcomes and deeper team, customer and partner engagement
- With an exceptionally intuitive interface, TrackerAIRSIDE Lite was seamlessly rolled out to a team of 15 in just one week—thanks to a unique and effective Change Management program. The AeroAscent technology has created a truly paperless environment (and reduction carbon footprint), eliminating the time-consuming and costly tasks associated with written reporting, printing, and copying. It has also freed up valuable office space once reserved for storing physical files and documents, allowing the team to focus on what truly matters: operational excellence and safety.
- TrackerAIRSIDE Lite allows for the capture of more precise and timely data directly from the airfield, emphasizing the quality and timing of information. This increased accuracy not only enhances shift transitions but also provides invaluable insight into where time is being spent, enabling the refinement of processes and the removal of operational inefficiencies. With a clearer picture of airside activities, the airport is now able to continuously audit and optimize performance, ensuring the team is always operating at its best.
- One of the most transformative aspects of TrackerAIRSIDE Lite is its ability to foster continuous improvement through detailed data collection with zero data submission leakage. The tool provides high-quality evidence for analysis, enabling the team to identify areas for growth and improvement. In addition, the detailed reporting functions allow DAPL to develop lead indicators that help forecast potential risks, empowering the team to proactively prevent hazards and ensure the highest safety standards.
- By tracking activities over time and providing instant and ongoing performance evaluations with TrackerAIRSIDE Lite, the system encourages team achievements, monitors progress and drives excellence. The technology’s ease of use also makes it a powerful tool for training new recruits, streamlining their onboarding process and enhancing overall team readiness. Positive culture shift driving productivity and quality in reporting with team members reaching and often exceeding daily targets.
- This innovative solution has not only revolutionized Djarindjin Airport’s operations but serves as a blueprint for the future of airside helicopter management across the globe. The partnership with AeroAscent and the successful implementation of TrackerAIRSIDE Lite is a testament to DAPL's leadership in aviation safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Together, we are setting new benchmarks for operational excellence that will inspire helicopter intensive airports and airfields worldwide
This initiative has not only improved day-to-day operations but also laid the groundwork for ongoing process improvements and team performance enhancements. The successful execution of such a disruptive project - requiring thought leadership and careful change management - demonstrates the strength of the DAPL team's vision and approach, paving the way for future innovations in the sector.
In conclusion, this initiative with AeroAscent has made such a positive impact on people, culture, community engagement, reduced carbon footprint, increased safety and customer/client satisfaction. With DAPL leading the charge, the lessons and advantages gained from TrackerAIRSIDE Lite are poised to reshape airside safety and operations in helicopter turnaround airports.
We eagerly anticipate sharing our success with AeroAscent and TrackerAIRSIDE Lite with helicopter turnaround aerodromes across Australia, offshore, and globally, fostering win-win collaborations and deepening the expertise of our teams. Our vision of becoming a hub for knowledge-sharing and innovation, with representatives from international aviation sectors visiting Djarindjin Airport, is not just a dream but an imminent reality. Together, we are setting new benchmarks for airfield safety and operational excellence.
